Salary from £53,204 to £61,301 per annum inclusive with potential to progress to £68,119 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is a fixed term appointment until 31 May 2027.

The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (the Institute) within the LSE brings together international expertise from a wide range of disciplines, including economics, finance, geography, the environment, international development and the political economy. The Institute established a new Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx), focusing on leveraging, strengthening and amplifying research, and developing well targeted policy analysis and other outputs, by convening policymakers, and by providing technical support, assistance and capacity-building. CETEx will support the reforms necessary to deliver sustainable, inclusive and resilient economies and financial systems across Europe. We seek to appoint an experienced Policy Fellow to co-lead programmes and projects on the role of monetary and financial market (MFM) authorities (e.g., central banks, supervisors, financial market regulators and standard setters) in addressing environmental risks and supporting reforms.

The Policy Fellow will provide policymakers with a tailored evidence base, technical implementation guidance and the policy narratives to implement far-reaching reforms to deliver sustainable, inclusive and resilient economies and financial systems across Europe. They will conduct rigorous research and policy analysis and develop policy proposals to inform the decisions of MFM authorities, and related climate and environmental policy questions, with application to central banking, financial supervision, financial market regulation and standards in the European context. They will prepare and contribute to high-quality research-based policy reports, briefing papers, and presentations on the role of central banks and supervisors in the economic transition, and independently lead development of related outputs, and build and maintain relationships particularly among a strong network of European climate policy contacts in the public, private, and third sectors.

Candidates will have a master’s degree in environmental economics/policy, sustainable finance, economics, finance, management, law or a closely related field. Candidates should also have strong knowledge of the field of monetary and financial markets and related climate and environmental policy questions, with application to central banking, financial supervision, financial market regulation and standards in the European context, as well as experience of directly engaging with or working within monetary and financial market authorities in Europe or overseas on issues relating to environmental degradation and economic transition. Candidates will also have a strong publication track record of policy and research publications, or professional experience developing policies and implementation guidance, on the role of monetary and financial markets authorities in the context of environmental degradation and economic transition.
