The University of Huddersfield’s Institute of Railway Research (IRR) provides research and consultancy to UK and international clients. Our team consists of specialist railway engineers and researchers, many of whom have extensive industry or rail research experience. We work across all sectors of the industry from heavy to light rail and from infrastructure to vehicle engineering. Our work encompasses major research projects which shape the future of the industry at national or European level and sector specific research and development (R&D) or consultancy which helps our clients make strategic or tactical decisions.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our rail vehicle dynamics / wheel-rail interface engineering team as a Senior Industrial Fellow. In this role, you will lead projects and small teams to deliver funded project work. Additionally, you will maintain an active stream of funded work through client engagement and by writing winning proposals.
You will need to be an expert in this area, holding a relevant First Degree (2:1 or above), with specialist knowledge in vehicle dynamic simulation and its applications. You will have a proven track record of delivering high quality technical projects and reports, along with experience in project management. As a member of the IRR team, you will be comfortable leading a small team and will be able to evidence your experience of developing industrial funding proposals and winning funding.
In this challenging role, you will have access to over £15m of advanced full-scale test facilities and will contribute to the development of our core skills in the field of vehicle-track system dynamics, wheel-rail interface engineering and asset management.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging.
