Technical Specialist (Safety - Site Services)

The role

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Technical Specialist in Health & Safety to join our Site Services team. In this role, you will be recognized as an operational safety specialist, providing expert support and advice on all aspects of health and safety related to Site Services activities. You will work closely with the Operations Manager, Assistant Managers, and Supervisors, proactively monitoring operational activities within the team to ensure all are conducted in a safe manner.

What will you be doing?

• Work closely with key stakeholders to offer safety guidance, keep accurate safety records, create and implement consistent safety policies and procedures, perform root cause analyses of safety issues, and procure safety materials and equipment.
• Deliver extensive safety advice, support, and training to Cleaning and Estates Assistant staff while fostering a culture of safe work practices.
• Organize and oversee safety activities and inspections, coordinate regular safety inspections and testing schedules, and effectively plan and prioritize workloads to meet service requirements.
• Enforce legislative standards and University policies, attend safety meetings and committees, and share best practices.
• Supervise staff or external contractors as necessary, address unsafe practices, and implement necessary improvements.
