We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
This is a full time fixed-term contract finishing on the 31st March 2026. However, there is a possibility of extension depending on start date of the successful applicant.
We are seeking a Research Fellow or Assistant Professor (Research) to support an Vocense Inc biomedical project named “DCR with VOCense- Medical Device Research employing Human Volatiles” in collaboration with other research partners – specifically University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
The overall goal of the project is to develop new means to detect specific infections in patients through odour analysis – measuring the chemical compounds emanating from humans. Warwick’s contribution being the chemical analysis of these biomarkers by traditional analytical means and the development of a prototype sensing system to be used in to detect the first signs of infection.
You will join our dynamic team who are analysing odours from samples and developing sensor systems for a broad range of applications and working with a wide range of industrial and clinical partners.
This role will assist in undertaking the measurement and analysis of odours associated with clinically relevant infections, contributing to the identification of these odours, the development of a chemical sensing unit and then testing and evaluating the unit in both laboratory and a clinical setting.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for some project management activities, including communication with project partners, attendance at meetings, preparation of documentation and delivering presentations.
This post is based at the University of Warwick (in the BioMedical Sensors Lab at the School of Engineering, www.warwick.ac.uk/go/bsl), however the successful candidate will be required to make trips to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, who are based in Coventry.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone previously researching in the analytical sciences, biomedical or sensors and sensor systems to be part of the development of a real product.
