About the Role
The School of Engineering & Materials Science (SEMS) is home to the Centre for Bioengineering. Queen Mary has a long track record of outstanding bioengineering and biomaterials research and has just been awarded an EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Next Generation Organ-on-a-Chip Technologies. Centre staff apply their expertise to a wide range of biomedical research problems and applications with core strengths in biomechanics, mechanobiology, biomaterials, predictive in vitro models, sensing, med tech, and AI for healthcare. Staff also support our delivery of biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study. In REF2021, SEMS was ranked 7th overall and 2nd for the quality of our research outputs.
We are looking for world-leading researchers in a computational biomedical engineering area able to complement and expand our biomedical engineering research and teaching, such as Computational Modelling of Biological Systems, AI and Machine Learning in Healthcare, Medical Digital Twins, Biomechanics and Computational Physiology, Biomedical Signal Processing, Medical Imaging and Analysis, Systems and Engineering Biology, and Digital Health. We are particularly interested in staff whose research aligns with artificial intelligence approaches.
About You
Applicants should have a proven track record of research achievement demonstrated through refereed journal publications, and at a minimum outstanding potential for research income generation, with a proven track record expected for a role at senior lecturer level.
A commitment to high-quality student education is also essential, to develop, support and deliver on campus our taught programmes, particularly in the biomedical engineering and AI areas.
We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as women, Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic groups as these groups are underrepresented at this level at Queen Mary.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with over 100 academics. There are around 1700 undergraduate and taught postgraduate students and over 150 PhD students within our London operation, supported by an administrative and technical staff of around 45.
About Queen Mary
At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.
Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.
We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.
Benefits
We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities.
Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
