About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Flow Cytometry Specialist to join Oxford Cancer, a city-wide research initiative and partnership between Oxford University, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Thames Valley Cancer Alliance and the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group.
This role requires a dedicated Flow Cytometry Specialist to establish and deliver processes and technical capabilities to enable clinical grade immunophenotyping of biological samples from laboratory and clinical trials, to demonstrate intervention efficacy as part of a broader cancer vaccine discovery and development pathway.
You will be responsible for providing flow cytometry support, or direct delivery to users. This may include Flow Sorting of immune cells for downstream analysis, and the staining of immune cells for multiple phenotypic markers.
The role involves planning projects with internal and external collaborators, focusing on acquisition parameters and analysis, while providing recommendations for implementation. You will use and train others on flow cytometry systems and software, generate high-quality data and reports for publication and grant applications, and contribute ideas for new research projects. Compliance with University policies is essential, along with undertaking other duties as required.
About you
You will have a postgraduate degree in biology, immunology, biophysics, or a related scientific discipline, with experience in using advanced flow cytometry hardware for biological applications, including a thorough understanding of the acquisition process and hardware optimisation.
Experience working in a laboratory that provides services to other researchers, along with the ability to interact with other scientific disciplines and support project development, is essential. You should have demonstrable project management experience, the ability to prioritise and work flexibly across multiple projects, and strong skills in data evaluation, interpretation, problem-solving, and troubleshooting. Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written, are required, along with strong organisational skills to meet deadlines and manage competing demands.
