We are looking for an ambitious and motivated Finance Manager to join our professional services team. The Finance Manager will ensure effective management and coordination of the Department of Haematology (DoH) and Cambridge Stem Cell Institute's (CSCI) finance function, which includes a large and complex research grant portfolio.
The DoH is an internationally renowned biomedical research department with a particular focus on blood cell formation, blood cancers and thrombosis, http://www.haem.cam.ac.uk/ . CSCI is a world-leading centre for stem cell research with the mission to transform human health through a deep understanding of stem cell biology https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/. The delivery of international research excellence and impact are therefore the main drivers for our work. Collectively our research grant portfolio is large, diverse and valued at over £150M with an annual spend of more than £25M.
Based in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre (JCBC) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, the role holder will support the Business & Operations Manager to manage finances and grants processes, providing strategic input and ensuring compliance with financial procedures and regulations, and grant sponsor terms. They will lead a team of 5 staff to provide a high quality and customer focussed service.
Substantial relevant experience in a finance management role, preferably in a Higher Education environment, is essential. This should include both general financial accounting and research grant management. Experience of managing a team and an ability to deliver a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, are also required. This is a both a fast paced and challenging role and so efficient time management and prioritisation skills are necessary.
