We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences as a Research Manager. 

About the role

This exciting new role is key to growing the professional enabling expertise available to our vibrant research community. 

You will work across three departments - Economics, Education, and Politics, Languages & International Studies - and be an integral part of their research leadership teams. 

Your contributions will directly impact the development and evolution of research strategies and culture, as well as the successful delivery of high-profile activities supporting these priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to strategic planning as a key member of the departmental research leadership teams and lead the operational implementation of these plans.
  • Foster a positive research culture across departments and support activities aligned with research priorities.
  • Design and deliver a wide range of activities that will support the research goals and aspirations of faculty members, research entities, and individuals.
  • Lead the departmental research marketing and communications strategy.
  • Provide expertise and input into the Research Excellence Framework (REF) process.
  • Provide proactive solutions to emerging challenges, offering expert advice and creative recommendations.
  • Work closely with Heads of Department, departmental research leaders, and a broad range of internal and external collaborators.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong organisational and project management skills with a proven ability to handle competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working with internal and external collaborators at all levels.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to generate original ideas and solutions.
  • Experience in academic or research environments, with an understanding of the research landscape.
  • Ability to manage and lead initiatives in a research-focused setting.
