UWE Bristol School of Applied Sciences is one of the largest education centres for healthcare science in the UK. Three BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science Practitioner degree apprenticeship programmes are offered, including Physiological Sciences, Clinical Engineering and Medical Physics Technology. Medical Engineering is one of four specialisms delivered as part of the Clinical Engineering programme, the others being Radiation Engineering, Rehabilitation Engineering, and Renal Technology.
We also deliver three commissioned programmes: a PGCert in Clinical Echocardiography, a PGCert in Sleep Medicine and a Graduate Diploma in Respiratory Science.
This role will focus on delivering excellence in teaching and academic support to students on all specialist training pathways within the Clinical Engineering programme, and in particular Medical Engineering.
Working within a committed and enthusiastic team, you’ll support students on the Medical Engineering specialist pathway specifically, by leading modules, contributing to teaching, learning and assessment, supervising final year research projects and reviewing evidence of work-based competency. You’ll also be expected to contribute to programme development and there will be opportunities to engage in research and to contribute to other programmes across the subject area.
You’ll have a PhD in a subject relevant to this post, or have a relevant master’s qualification with significant professional practice. We are looking for someone with significant clinical experience in Medical Engineering. Ideally you have clinical experience in this field, and in particular to those with expertise in medical electronics and/or a background in computing/ICT/networking in a clinical setting.
You’re someone who aligns to UWE Bristol values. You can demonstrate your experience of leading and motivating groups of people, collegiate working and their organisational skills. You can demonstrate how you’ll keep abreast of latest developments in this subject area and external best practice benchmarks.
You will be supported in this role by an experienced senior lecturer as a mentor. And you’ll be expected to undertake the PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE unless already obtained. The school provides staff development funds to support personal and subject related training for academic staff.
