For informal queries, please reach out to Joanna Collingwood (Professor) at j.f.collingwood@warwick.ac.uk.
You will take a leading role in delivery of the PreSchool Futures project, led by Prof Joanna Collingwood in the School of Engineering. This project centres on recognition of engineering skills in an early years context.
The role will involve working independently and collaboratively, with responsibility for coordinating project planning and delivery.
This includes organising meetings with relevant stakeholders, record keeping, project administration (such as preparing and managing ethical approval documentation when appropriate), staying up to date with the latest research and practice developments in the field, and communicating progress and findings through various formats.
These may include conference posters and talks, peer-reviewed publications, and formal reports.
The work may include literature reviews, ethically-approved surveys and observational studies, workshop and conference organisation and/or attendance, liaison with stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, and evaluation of engineering skills measures in early years education frameworks in the UK and internationally.
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
About You
They will have a keen interest in the field, underpinned by knowledge of the peer reviewed literature relevant to engineering education, and the capability to rapidly review, synthesize, and communicate findings in order to ensure the project can make best use of existing work in the field.
You will have demonstrable knowledge of diversity and inclusion issues in STEM education at national or even international level, and be able to show creativity and efficacy in your approach – for example, to improve equity of opportunity or to make a process or environment more inclusive.
You will be used to communicating effectively in a variety of settings (e.g. one-to-one meetings, formal working groups, conferences), and of reporting quantitative and qualitative findings to a variety of audiences.
You will have, or be near completion of, a PhD in an engineering education related field, and have an undergraduate degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
You will bring an excellent working knowledge of statistics to handle large and complex datasets (including theoretical understanding and practical analytical experience).
You will have demonstrable experience of evaluating qualitative (e.g. focus group findings) as well as qualitative data, and experience of working with potentially sensitive data. You will bring direct experience of gaining ethical approval in relevant areas (e.g. for engineering-education-related surveys or focus groups).
For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.
If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure. Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure.
