As a Senior Technician within our Civil and Structures Laboratories, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of practical teaching, research, and consultancy activities. This hands-on post involves overseeing the day-to-day technical operations of our specialist labs, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe, professional, and productive learning environment for students and staff alike. You’ll work as part of a multi-skilled team, providing expert support during peak teaching periods, assisting in research setups, and contributing to the continued development and innovation of our lab practices.
You’ll also take the lead in ensuring that all health and safety protocols are followed, including the correct use of PPE and maintaining compliance standards. Additionally, you’ll advise on procurement, equipment care, and contribute to key events such as Open Days and VIP visits.
The Person
You will be a technically skilled, safety-conscious, and solutions-focused individual with experience in managing and supporting laboratory operations—ideally in a civil or Structures lab setting. You’ll be confident working with specialist lab equipment, providing expert guidance, and troubleshooting issues to minimise downtime.
An excellent communicator and team player, you will enjoy supporting students and staff and contributing to a collaborative and inclusive learning environment. You’ll be organised, adaptable, and able to manage multiple demands simultaneously, especially during busy teaching periods. Your commitment to technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement will ensure a positive impact on both educational and research outcomes.
