The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (hereafter DVC) is a senior academic leadership role within the University. They assist the Vice-Chancellor in carrying out their responsibilities and play a strategic leadership role in specific pan-University areas of responsibility on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, deputising for the Vice-Chancellor as required. They provide, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, strategic academic oversight of the University's planning and resource allocation processes (including academic leadership of the University’s approach to income generation and student recruitment), performance against the University’s KPIs and the goals set out in the Strategic Plan, and the development and implementation of the University's human resources strategy.
The DVC is line managed by and reports to the Vice-Chancellor. The post is a full-time appointment, with 20% of the DVC's time allocated to maintaining and developing their research career. Consistent with all research active members of staff, the DVC is expected to produce research at a volume and quality that would make a significant contribution to a Unit of Assessment submission in future REF exercises, as part of the contractual requirements of this role.
