We are seeking an outstanding and collaborative individual with a passion for both teaching and research to contribute to the continued success, operation and development of Chemical Engineering at Bath. You will be integral to increasing our well-established research activities in future-focused technologies for sustainability, specifically sustainable materials, and preparing the next generation to play a key role in achieving sustainable manufacturing through our highly-rated undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses.
We are looking for someone with a track record of research excellence in either sustainable polymer engineering / processing or sustainable battery materials. We welcome both wet lab and in silico research activities, including the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in your research area.
For the senior lecturer role, you have an established track record of research excellence as demonstrated by internationally leading research publications and evidence of securing significant research funding in your field. You have extensive teaching experience in chemical engineering and are likely to have taken on leadership roles in your current position.
At Bath, we offer an exceptional environment for research, teaching and learning, and we wish to support you in reaching your potential for internationally leading research. You will be a member of one of the Faculty of Engineering & Design Research Centres, as well as the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC). You will have access to students on PhD programmes such as Sustainable Chemical Technologies. The Department benefits from extensive national and international collaboration, excellent research and teaching facilities, and strong links with industry.
Our degree courses in chemical engineering and environmental engineering prepare our students to tackle the global challenges we face, such as climate change, and the delivery of sustainable water, energy, food and wellbeing. You will be able to teach across the breadth and depth of our programmes including chemical engineering design.
About the role
You will work in reaction engineering and sustainable energy systems with research interests in environmentally-focused applications to achieve triple-bottom-line performance. We welcome both wet lab and in silico research activities, including the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in your research area. You will be a member of one of the Faculty of Engineering & Design Research Centres, as well as Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS), Institute for Sustainability and Climate Change (IFCC), and Water Innovation and Research Centre (WIRC). You will have access to students on PhD programmes in Sustainable Chemical Technologies and Statistical Applied Mathematics.
The Department currently holds the Athena SWAN Silver Award, and we value equality and diversity, and promote an inclusive workplace culture for staff and students irrespective of their gender identity, ethnicity or cultural background and seek to achieve true equity of opportunity for all members of our community.
For an informal discussion, please contact Prof. Tina Duren (td222@bath.ac.uk) or Dr. Carmelo Herdes Moreno (cehm21@bath.ac.uk).
The teaching vision should outline your areas of teaching expertise and how you see yourself contributing to teaching across the entire breadth and depth of core (bio)chemical engineering in our undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees. Your commitment to EDI should include an outline how you have promoted or implemented EDI in your workplace.
Both documents are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application.
