We have an exciting opportunity for a Maker Space Technician to join the University’s Enterprise Team. In this role, you will provide day-to-day support for the facilities and equipment in the Maker Space, specialising in fashion and textiles. You will support and nurture budding entrepreneurs from our student and post-graduate communities by undertaking inductions, offering one-to-one support, and delivering workshops and demonstrations within your area of specialism.
Educated to degree level in Textiles or a related discipline where Fashion Garment Construction was the specialism, you will have experience of current textiles practice in relation to garment construction, together with experience working as a technician in a Maker Space or similar facility, ideally in a Higher Education Institution.
You will have experience using industrial sewing machinery and, ideally, industrial embroidery machinery. Additionally, you will be able to pattern cut and construct a wide variety of fashion garments, including both menswear and womenswear. Proficiency in hand and machining skills using various fabrics and techniques, including tailoring, is also required.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Employer, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.
