This new full time post is available from 1 July 2025 on a 18 month fixed term basis.
The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow to join the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. This NERC funded post is available from the 01/07/2025 initially for a fixed term of 18 months, although this may be extended subject to funding.
We are seeking an experienced ice sheet modeller to join the NERC funded project “Sensitivity of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet to 2 degrees of warming” (UK-SWAIS-2C). The project includes partners at the British Antarctic Survey, Imperial College and the University of Leeds. As part of this post, you will also join the international SWAIS-2C project, which involves ~100 researchers from around the world. The project is focused on recovering sediments deposited underneath the Ross Ice Shelf during warmer than present climates to determine the past retreat history of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS), for more details see: https://www.swais2c.aq/. For this post the principle tasks will be 1) running simulations using the BISICLES ice sheet model, exploring the thresholds for WAIS retreat and readvance during Pleistocene glacial-interglacial cycles and 2) help in the co-ordination of an international paleoclimate ice sheet model intercomparison project. For more specific project details you are encouraged to contact Dr Ed Gasson to discuss.
