Overall Purpose of the Job

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Technical Specialist to join our dynamic Faculty Technical Operations team, which strives to provide a sector leading technical support for our students and staff. The purpose of this role is to:

  • Be part of a team of Senior Technical Specialists and Technical Specialists, responsible for the care, maintenance and operation of cleanroom equipment and processes, with a primary focus on focused ion beam and electron microscopy systems.
  • Provide high level training, support and (if applicable) bespoke specialist advice to cleanroom users with the fabrication of structures and devices incorporating graphene and other 2D materials
  • Proactively engage with cleanroom stakeholders internal and external to the university and build positive relationships to help drive successful research and/or commercial outcomes.
  • Device strategies for local business improvement and change projects by continuously improving services provision, striving for excellence, in order to maximize cost recovery.
  • Work alongside the wider cleanroom team, and in collaboration with Faculty Estates, Infrastructure & Facilities, Operations and H&S teams, ensure that cleanroom operations are compliant and operate smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
