Job description:

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate Solutions Architect to expand our established Architecture Team within the IT Service. The team has a maturing enterprise architecture capability and is looking to augment this with solution architecture to ensure projects and changes meet business needs while adhering to architectural principles, standards, and the target architecture.

The University has a strong commitment to investment in digital technology to improve the student and staff experience. The Architecture Team is part of the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO). Working alongside the Project Management Office, which comprises Project Management and Business Analysis practices, the team helps design and deliver University-wide IT solutions. These solutions are prioritized by the Technology Portfolio Board.

You will define solution architectures through close collaboration with colleagues in the OCTO, Technical Operations and Service Delivery sections, working alongside subject-matter experts, suppliers, business partners, and key stakeholders. You will champion cutting-edge solution architecture practices, drive the development and adoption of standards through proven methodologies to elevate project and change outcomes.

This role is permanent, based at the Newcastle-upon-Tyne campus, and offers a variety of attractive benefits including hybrid working.

About you:

We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the following essential qualities:

  • Demonstrable, breadth of experience in a Solutions Architecture capacity
  • Experience with diverse, complex application and infrastructure technology stacks
  • Evidence of practical application of industry-recognised architecture frameworks such as TOGAF
  • Ability to develop architecture models to depict current and future states of the IT architecture
  • Broad knowledge of IT industry standards and best practice
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and influencing skills

We will support you and invest in your personal and professional development to help you succeed in the role and build the knowledge and skills to thrive. You will benefit from:

  • A highly collaborative team that builds on their collective knowledge, skills, and experience to continuously adapt and improve
  • A variety of development pathways with time and funding to ensure your progression

Ready to architect solutions that impact 30,000+ students and staff?

If this sounds like you, we invite you to apply by submitting an up-to-date CV and a covering letter. Your application should outline examples where your knowledge, skills, and experiences meet the requirements of the IT Architect (Solutions Architect) job description.

If we deem your application suitable for this role, we will invite you to interview expected Thursday 8th May , during which you will be asked to deliver a short presentation.
