Research Associate in Computational Genomics

Imperial College London - Institute of Clinical Sciences

Location: London
Salary: £48,056 to £54,063 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 24th March 2025
Closes: 23rd April 2025
Job Ref: MED05162

Location: Hammersmith

About the role:

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in computational genomics, initially for one year, based in the Functional Gene Control Group (led by Dr Mikhail Spivakov), focusing on the regulatory logic and variation of gene enhancers and enhancer-promoter communication.

The Functional Gene Control group (based within Imperial’s Institute of Clinical Sciences and MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences) studies how enhancers, enhancer-promoter contacts and cis-regulatory networks mediate the effects of disease-linked genetic variants and extracellular signals on gene expression. We are a friendly, interdisciplinary team of wet-lab and computational researchers (and often both) for more information, see the group’s websites at http://functionalgenecontrol.group/

What you would be doing:

The successful candidate will lead the integration and conceptualisation of multimodal genomics data arising from single-cell genomics, population genetics and chromosome conformation capture assays produced in-house and externally using state-of-the-art methodologies and participate in the development of new computational algorithms.

What we are looking for:

The post holder will have a proven track record of genomics research and will receive training in the specific technical and biological aspects of the research project. Ideally, the post holder will have the willingness and track record to apply for personal postdoctoral fellowships to support their extended stay in the lab.

What we can offer you:

  • A supportive, collaborative, interdisciplinary lab environment
  • The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution
  • Grow your career: work closely with the lab head in preparing postdoctoral fellowship applications to support your extended stay in the lab and gain access to Imperial’s sector-leading dedicated career support for researchers aspiring to stay in academia or move to industry for their next step
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.

This is a full-time and a fixed-term role (12 months) based at the Hammersmith Campus.
