About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic PET Radiographer/Imaging Technologist to join our Clinical Imaging Facility at Imperial College London. The Clinical Imaging Facility provides an imaging service, mainly for research but also clinical studies. We have just installed a new Siemens Biograph mCT 64 slice PET/CT scanner to complement a Siemens Verio 3T MRI scanner. The Facility sits within the Department of Brain Sciences at Imperial College. Its aim is to support the research efforts of clinicians and scientists in a multidisciplinary environment to allow them to gather experimental data reliably, reproducibly and of high quality.

What you would be doing

You will demonstrate a sound awareness of good patient care and confidentiality. Excellent Imaging skills in clinical and/or research fields are essential and should be paired with up to date knowledge of imaging techniques, and knowledge of the principles of PET scanning and the relationship of PET to other imaging modalities. Previous post grad experience is desirable, but not essential and post holders must have hands on experience in Nuclear Medicine, CT or MRI. You must have a BSc/Diploma in Radiography OR an equivalent recognised Nuclear Medicine Qualification. You will need to be able to work well in a small team, calmly under pressure, be empathetic and able to use their own initiative to problem solve. 

What we are looking for

  • Performing excellent quality imaging studies in accordance with departmental protocols in an efficient, safe and timely manner
  • Providing a high level of patient care before, during and after imaging procedures
  • Handling radioactive sources in accordance with the Local Rules.
  • Acting as an Operator under the IRMER regulations
  • Ensuring IRMER Employers’ Procedures are followed
  • Ensuring that relevant documentation e.g. referral forms, ARSAC, study consents are completed correctly prior to administering radioactivity
  • Interviewing each patient and accurately record all relevant information on the scanning data sheet
  • Providing a detailed explanation of the scanning procedure to each patient and their carers prior to commencing the procedure
  • Answering queries relating to the procedure or the patients condition, requesting additional help from senior or clinical colleagues as appropriate
  • Being sensitive and supportive of each patient’s needs whilst ensuring that optimum quality scanning is achieved
  • Accurately documenting all procedures and recording all usage of radioactive materials
