The Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and International Health is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to support the efforts of The Lancet Commission on Evidence-Based Implementation (EBI) in Global Health, focusing on reducing gaps and inequities in health implementation in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The post-holder will be developing prediction models using classical statistical methods, machine learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches. The role involves data management and analysis of multi-country data, data visualisation and reporting. The goal of the project is to develop predictive models for stillbirths and neonatal deaths using datasets from 10 previous studies across 15 African countries.
The post-holder must have a relevant first degree in a field such as statistics, computer science or data science and experience of data management and analysis of large and potentially complex datasets and understanding of data quality and data security and encryption for transfer and storage of confidential datasets. Analytical skills in prediction modelling using statistical software such as R or Python or Stata. Further particulars are included in the job description.
The post is full-time 35 hours per week 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 31 October 2026, which may be extended subject to funding. The post is funded by Wellcome Trust and available immediately.
The salary will be on Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 5 in the range £39,182 - £41,240 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
