We have an exciting opportunity for Dental Hygienists and/or Dental Therapists to join the Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise as a University Practitioner. These are part-time posts to deliver an inspirational learning experience to our undergraduate learners, alongside their practice as a Dental Hygienist and/or Dental Therapist.
The University of Huddersfield is a thriving university, and our excellent facilities are continuing to expand with state-of-the-art teaching, research, and clinical facilities on the National Health Innovation Campus. We have a diverse student body and work closely with our public partnership group, health and social care, and education partners. In 2023, the University achieved the TEF Gold award, and its apprenticeship provision was graded as “Outstanding” by Ofsted.
The role is open to Dental Hygienists and/or Dental Therapists who are interested in educating the future workforce. You will work with experienced academic and professional services colleagues to develop and facilitate learners’ knowledge, skills and professional attributes on a course that is contemporary, future-looking and enables graduates to meet the challenges of service users and service needs. Commitment to an innovative student-centred learning experience is essential.
You will be currently registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Hygienist and/or Dental Therapist and hold either a Diploma or BSc in Dental Hygiene / Dental Therapy. With a Master's degree in a relevant subject or equivalent (or ability to complete this within 12 months of taking up the role), you will be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (or be willing to work towards this within 12 months of appointment).
The post requires recent experience of teaching Dental Hygiene and/or Dental Therapy within a clinical or higher education setting, and we would particularly welcome applications from Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists with an interest in Dental Public Health.
This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.
As a Practitioner, we expect you to be actively engaged in practice in addition to your role at the University. This can be either through paid employment with another employer, paid consultancy or freelance work.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Employer, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder on our website.
