An existing opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow/Associate within the Academic Unit, Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences to join the University of Nottingham Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence.

The Centre is underpinned by 5-year programmatic funding from the charity ‘Brain Tumour Research (BTR)’ and represents a multidisciplinary and cross-Faculty research partnership, also leveraging international collaborators at University of Freiburg, Mayo Clinic Arizona, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The hub of the Centre will be based at the Biodiscovery Institute (BDI), University of Nottingham, and this post supports the Medical Imaging team based in the School of Medicine.

In this post, you will apply advanced imaging methods, including metabolic and physiological magnetic resonance imaging to understand the progressive evolution of glioblastoma, a lethal brain cancer. You will be expected to plan and conduct work using methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research and will be responsible for writing up your work for publication. The project will provide the opportunity to access imaging data from patients and, working in collaboration with others in the university, genomic and metabolomic measures, offering novel potential to explore the physiological basis for imaging measures and apply machine learning in a radiological context.

You will join an established team, led by researchers from Radiological Sciences, Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences, School of Medicine and the world-renowned Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre at the University of Nottingham. Our team is closely linked to the Magnetic Resonance and Precision Imaging community at the Nottingham NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.

Applicants must be highly motivated and self-driven, with a PhD or equivalent (or near to completion of PhD),in a physical, medical or life sciences area that includes experience of medical imaging. The successful candidate will ideally have experience of analysing medical images using popular neuroimaging toolboxes such as FSL, SPM, ANTs etc. Wider experience with research in cancer, machine learning and/or radiomics would be beneficial.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours, with the option for part-time minimum 29 hours) fixed-term contract offered for 2 years in the first instance, commencing on May 1st, 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Subject to confirmation of funding, the post may be extended by a further 1.5-years (3.5-years in total).
