The Royal College of Art (RCA) invites applications for the position of Associate Lecturer in Design Products within the School of Design. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-quality, postgraduate teaching and tuition, enriching the academic experience of our students. As an Associate Lecturer (AL), you will play a vital role in enhancing the delivery of our Design Products programme, bringing expertise from diverse industries and disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Learning & Teaching

  • Deliver high-quality teaching content that meets the individual needs of students.
  • Lead and support the delivery of Design Products teaching through tutorials, lectures, workshops, and other related activities.
  • Provide academic, pastoral, and technical support to students, including regular one-to-one meetings as agreed.
  • Provide constructive and timely feedback to students to support their development and improvement.
  • Stay current with subject area knowledge and professional contexts, sharing this with students.
  • Participate in the assessment of student work and contribute to the academic rigour of the programme.

Academic Delivery, Administration & Citizenship

  • Attend School-wide or Programme-level planning events as part of academic delivery and administration.
  • Support and lead field trips to enrich students' learning experiences.
  • Conduct risk assessments where necessary, ensuring compliance with policies and maintaining the safety of students and colleagues.
  • Contribute to curriculum design, supporting material development, and ensuring innovative teaching and assessment practices.
  • Engage with Staff-Student Consultative Committees to review and improve unit delivery.
  • Actively support the College's objectives for Equality and Diversity, engaging in relevant mandatory training.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Strong commitment to high-quality teaching and fostering an inclusive, positive learning environment.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and a commitment to personal and academic growth.
  • A clear commitment to equality of opportunity and the ability to engage with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience in both one-to-one and group teaching, with experience in online and blended learning methods.
  • Professional experience in the industry context relevant to Design Products.
