Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within School of History.

This position is within an ERC Consolidator project being led by Dr Irial Glynn (Principal Investigator - PI). The project is a 5-year study of the global history of boat refugees since the 1940s (SOS). SOS will focus on refugees’ journeys, paying particular attention to what occurred at sea and at offshore detention centres. The central research question framing the project is: how did notions of solidarity, sovereignty and sanctuary influence the experience and reception of boat refugees across time and space? The research team will be guided by the related sub-question: who hindered and who helped boat refugees at sea, and why? The project aims to place boat refugees at the heart of the analysis.  The successful applicant will create and develop their own case study centring on the experience and reception of Vietnamese boatpeople in the South China Sea in the 1970s and 1980s.
