About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Research Associate to join our Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester. This position is funded by the Medical Research Council and focuses on investigating the mechanisms and interventions related to cell death, inflammation, and innate repair in acute kidney injury (AKI), with an emphasis on the delivery of gene-modifying agents to damaged cells and their effects on AKI, repair, and chronic progression. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing mouse AKI models, cell cultures, and isolated kidney perfusion models, as well as collecting, evaluating, and interpreting research data to achieve project milestones. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research with translational potential in both native kidneys and donor kidney preservation in humans.

About you

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline and demonstrate experience in appropriate research methodologies. A proven track record of contributing to peer-reviewed journal publications is essential, along with analytical problem-solving capabilities. Expertise in relevant biological models and analytical techniques is required, with the ability to develop new methodologies as needed. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are crucial, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team. A commitment to continuous professional development and the capability to mentor and guide other staff and students are also important for this role.
