A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Microwave Photonics.
The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The key responsibilities and duties are to develop a microwave photonic based read out system for micro-ring based photonic sensors. This will include modelling of the sensor system to guide the design of the micro-rings which will be fabricated by a partner. Novel solutions will be required to allow the modulation of the optical signal to be able to compensate for imperfections in the mirco-ring sensors to enable superior resolution to be achieved in realistic use cases. The system built, tested and developed and used to test enhanced micro-ring sensors.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are:
The applicant has obtained or is close to obtaining a PhD in physics, electronic engineering, or other related area; has relevant experience in microwave photonics (or related photonics area) in PhD/postdoc/job; has a good publishing track record, and has the ability to work in a team and with collaborators. The experience of system and component level testing in optical systems is an advantage.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

*Research Assistant: £32,546 - £35,116
*Research Associate: £37,174 - £45,413
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 June 2028 in the first instance.
