Applications are invited from an experienced and enthusiastic supervisor for this exciting fixed-term role for 12 months to support the college’s undergraduate law programme.

Job Purpose

Applicants must be able to offer teaching in key areas of the Cambridge undergraduate Law Tripos; experience teaching criminal, equity, contract and/or human rights law would be an advantage, as would experience teaching mature undergraduate students (all Hughes Hall undergraduates are over the age of 21 when commencing study).

Main Duties

  • Supervising Hughes Hall undergraduates for 240 hours per annum in small groups, or on an exchange basis with other Colleges.
  • You will be expected to undertake all necessary preparation for teaching, mark all work, submit reports on supervisions, and provide personal references for students in a timely manner.
  • On request set and mark College examinations.
  • Assisting with outreach and recruitment activities for prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students in Law, including Open Days.
  • Participate in the undergraduate admissions process in the College, supporting with the initial assessment of candidates, admissions interviews, and the selection of candidates in the December and March rounds of interviews.
  • Liaising with the Admissions Teams to set appropriate conditional offers to those selected, to pool or reject others as necessary, and to offer feedback on applications as requested.
  • Being available to assist with the selection of candidates from the Winter Pool in the New Year if necessary, and with the pool interviews if required in the week before the start of the Lent full term. Participate in the Summer Pool and Adjustment processes as needed.
  • Contributing to enrichment activities for current students in Law, and the wider intellectual life of the College.
  • Participate in the academic activities of your Faculty when possible, provided that such participation is not to the detriment of your College responsibilities.
  • Pursue, with a view to publication, as appropriate, research in your subject.
  • Supply a termly account of the hours taught for the College or by way of exchange for other Colleges, together with all supervision claims submitted to Hughes Hall, indicating those for which payment is to be made to Hughes Hall as part of the contract.
