Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow to join the University of Nottingham Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence.
The Centre is underpinned by 5-year programmatic funding from the charity ‘Brain Tumour Research (BTR)’ and represents a multidisciplinary and cross-Faculty research partnership, also leveraging international collaborators at University of Freiburg, Mayo Clinic Arizona, and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The hub of the Centre will be based at the Biodiscovery Institute (BDI), University of Nottingham, and this post will be bridged between BDI and School of Life Sciences.
This position will be especially suited to candidates with an interest in brain tumour genomics and specifically, single cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. The post offers a unique opportunity to be an integral part of a dynamic, multifaceted research programme, with reciprocal interdisciplinary engagement between themes (Genomics, Metabolomics, Advanced Medical Imaging, Preclinical Modelling/Drug Delivery, Mathematical Modelling).
Applicants must be highly motivated and self-driven, with a PhD or equivalent (or near to completion of PhD), in genomics, molecular and cell biology or related area of biological science. The successful candidate will ideally have considerable experience in some of the following areas: handling and analysing large genomic datasets, working knowledge of R and one other language (ideally Python), scRNAseq analysis (e.g., Seurat), fluorescence-activated cell sorting. A track record of publishing research and experience in primary tumour cell culture is also desirable.
This is a full-time (36.25 hours) fixed-term contract offered for 2 years in the first instance, commencing on March 1st, 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). Subject to progress, the post may be extended by a further 1.5-years (3.5-years in total).
Job share arrangements may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof Matt Loose (Centre of Excellence – Genomics Lead) and Prof Ruman Rahman (Director – BTR Centre of Excellence), email: plzmwl@exmail.nottingham.ac.uk and mgzrr@exmail.nottingham.ac.uk
