Job Ref: SAE-028173

We are seeking an individual with a passion for open, transparent, and reproducible research to act as Research Associate on the UKRI Metascience grant “Supporting Research and Researchers through the deployment of Digital Notebooks: A framework for implementation and impact”.

The growing complexity of research and data, a greater focus from funders on FAIR data sharing and reuse, and the increasing need to verify and authenticate research means Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) need to implement new processes to support research record keeping. These include Digital Notebooks, more commonly referred to as either electronic research notebooks (ERNs) or Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs). Despite ERNs already being in place in specific clusters of research, we do not fully understand the best ways to implement ERNs to meet the diverse needs of researchers. The UKRI Metascience grant “Supporting Research and Researchers through the deployment of Digital Notebooks: A framework for implementation and impact” will address this gap through a research programme examining the ongoing implementation of ERNs at The University of Manchester. Roll out is being driven by the Research Lifecycle Programme and the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Manchester Institute whose ongoing activities provide an ideal opportunity to identify specific, actionable barriers to implementation and to test the efficacy of interventions at an individual, technical and institutional level. The Research Associate will study those interventions and barriers in real-time, with support from those leading on the deployment of ERNs across the University, to develop the primary output of an Implementation Report to help HEIs across the UK to implement and deploy ERNs in their own institutions.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
