The CAMS Oxford Institute (COI), at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to assist the researchers with the day-to-day operations supporting the COI laboratories. You will be expected to assist with stock keeping, ordering and equipment maintenance.
You will process samples and record results in a clear and organised fashion, noting any discrepancies and proposing refinements where necessary. As part of your role supporting the COI Laboratories, you will collate results and communicate them to the appropriate members of the team. You will provide assistance in the day-to-day activities of the COI research groups, including monitoring, ordering and restocking stock consumables as necessary. You will maintain regular stock of buffers and media for use by research staff. You will ensure deliveries to COI are processed and stored correctly, and relevant staff are informed.
It is essential that you are educated to GCSE-level or have an equivalent qualification in English, Maths and Science, and recent relevant experience in a life science laboratory environment. You will have excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills in order to provide reliable and precise reports, and you will be well organised, familiar with good laboratory practices and safety requirements. IT skills including a knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs, and ability to organise your own work load and take initiative, as well as the ability to work as part of a team and to collaborate with colleagues on a range of projects are essential to the role. It is essential that you are familiar with good laboratory practices and safety requirements with knowledge of health and safety regulations.
