We are seeking a highly experienced research planning professional armed with excellent project management skills and with a track record in REF and research evaluation more widely.
The Research Planning Manager will lead in the preparation of materials and data analysis for the University’s submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and provide project management for both REF and the annual research planning round.
Working closely with the Head of Research Planning and in conjunction with academic departments and professional services they will deliver support to enable the Pro Vice Chancellor (Research) and senior R&IS colleagues to conduct the planning round.
The postholder will also help lead the University on REF and enable longer-term planning to meet the ambitions of the University’s Research Strategy.
The postholder will be an advocate for research evaluation information ensuring that the University is fully utilising research support systems across a range of insights to better inform stakeholders.
The postholder will also work closely with R&IS Research Impact, and the RSDMs, on aspects of research planning and REF.
The RPM will also provide policy advice and guidance on the intricacies of the assessment framework to academic colleagues and professional services staff, and be a central point of information for queries from academic and administrative staff.
The holder will also maintain the project plan and ensure that objectives are executed and well communicated, and milestones are met.

The postholder will have experience in a research planning or REF context and be someone that has expertise in the interpretation and communication of complex policy.
The person will also need expertise in utilising systems, processes and be comfortable handling data to deliver the University’s objectives in relation to research excellence.
They will be an excellent communicator, able to build professional relationships and establish credibility with key stakeholders. They will also be well organised and enjoy ensuring a project meets its objectives on time.
