About the role:

The Public Involvement Lead will lead the strategic direction of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) at IGHI, including managing the public involvement team to ensure the public voice is heard in governance and research projects. They will ensure researchers are carrying out meaningful public involvement (with a focus on under-represented groups) and capturing the impact of public involvement. They will also be the PPIE Lead and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for the national network of NIHR PSRCs (SafetyNet), to support collaboration and shared learning with other public involvement practitioners.

What you would be doing:

  • You will lead public involvement across IGHI, including managing the public involvement team.
  • You are responsible for the PSRC PPIE strategy and the NIHR PSRC Network (SafetyNet) PPIE and EDI strategies.
  • You are an active member of PSRC and SafetyNet Executive Boards.
  • You will train and support researchers to do meaningful public involvement, gain funding and capture the impact of public involvement.
  • You will grow our public network, with a focus on under-represented groups.
  • You will lead public involvement for a programme of work with Mental Health Innovations.
  • You will stay up-to-date with best practice and be connected to other experts in public involvement to share learning.

What we are looking for:

  • You will have leadership, line management and strategy experience.
  • You will be an expert in public involvement in research, including around capturing impact and involving people from under-represented groups.
  • You will be able to influence senior stakeholders and ensure that the UK standards of public involvement in research are upheld.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills, including facilitation and ensuring diverse community member voices are heard.
  • You will have experience of leading public involvement in programmes of work that have led to impact (e.g. policy and practices changes).

This is a full-time, fixed term (maternity cover) until 30 April 2026 role based at St. Mary’s Hospital Campus.
