About the role
A Research Technician is required to work in the Endocrinology Section of the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction based at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus. The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of Professor Stephen Bloom, in a laboratory at the forefront of endocrine research, in particular the study of regulatory peptides in health and diseases.
What you would be doing
You will perform research into obesity treatments and this section has a specialist diagnostic laboratory which analyses referred samples from hospitals throughout the UK for the diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumours. The post holder will primarily assist with all aspects of the neuroendocrine tumour diagnostic lab. The primary responsibility of the post holder will include providing radioimmunoassay technical support for the diagnostic lab run by the Section and under the overall direction and supervision of the line manager, Professor Sir Stephen Bloom. The post holder will gain experience and extend their knowledge of relevant laboratory techniques. In addition to laboratory support, the duties include laboratory administrative responsibilities as commensurate with the grade of the post.
What we are looking for
Applicants must have a Bachelor degree in biochemistry or a relevant life science subject (2:1 or higher), or equivalent laboratory experience. The post holder will need knowledge and experience of general laboratory practice, techniques, instrumentation and immunoassays. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
