About the Role
The Counselling Manager at Queen Mary University of London plays a key leadership role in managing the operational delivery of the counselling team within the Advice and Counselling Service. The role involves line management of senior counsellors, overseeing service quality and clinical risk, contributing to strategic planning, and ensuring professional standards. The Counselling Manager also carries a reduced caseload of individual counselling clients and collaborates with other university services and external providers to support student wellbeing. Additionally, they deputise for the Co-Head of Advice and Counselling Service when necessary and contribute to broader student support initiatives across the university.
About You
We are seeking a Counselling Manager to lead our team of psychodynamic and integrative counsellors and cognitive behavioural therapists. The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in counselling or psychotherapy and have significant experience of working in and managing a busy team in an educational setting.
About the Department
The Advice and Counselling Service is a multidisciplinary student support service offering counselling and psychological support, mental health and wellbeing support, psychiatry clinics, sexual assault and harassment advice. In addition, welfare, money advice and immigration advice are provided by the welfare advice team. The service is one of the constituent departments in the Student Experience Directorate.
The Advice and Counselling Service currently employs 42 staff equating to approximately 36.7 FTE, plus a small number of counselling trainees.
The Service comprises of five staff teams: the counselling team, the mental health team, the advice team, the sexual assault and harassment advice team and our shared frontline services team.
