We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care.
The CEU recruits many tens of thousands of participants to its large-scale studies. Biological samples are collected as part of these studies and the Unit now holds >1.5 million samples across its portfolio of bio-resources, with this number expected to triple over the next few years.
The role holder will assist in the cataloguing, picking and aliquoting of biological samples (predominantly frozen human blood samples at -80°C) and the maintenance of accurate electronic records and manifests. They will retrieve and prepare biological samples for shipments, including routine aliquoting of samples as necessary.
The technician will also arrange receipt and collection of sample shipments from in and outside the UK ensuring that samples are received, stored and shipped correctly. Providing technical support for teaching and research activity in order to ensure the smooth running of the research facility. In addition, you will keep track of the laboratory supply stock and will place orders to suppliers.
The post holder will be educated to GCSE level grade A-C/VQ level 2 or equivalent in a science subject/ equivalent level of practical experience and have a knowledge of relevant health and safety processes, along with good communication and organisational skills.

The post will be located at Strangeways Research Laboratory on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Worts Causeway, Cambridge CB1 8RN (approx 2 miles south of city centre)
