About us
We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease (www.prion.ucl.ac.uk). The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research. MRC and UCL have jointly invested £30 million in provision of a dedicated building in central London for the Institute supporting the vision to expand research in protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.
The Institute is headed by Professor John Collinge FRS, and comprises MRC core funded, UCL Core funded and external grant funded clinicians, scientists, research/technical staff and professional services staff. The Institute has circa 90 staff located on two sites.
About the role
We are seeking to recruit an experienced Operations Manager for the Institute of Prion Diseases. This post is the senior professional services manager for the Institute. The Institute Manager works closely with and reports to the Institute Director providing excellent service delivery to the Institute’s academic and research staff; enabling and adding value to the activities that are core to the Institute.
The Institute Manager works closely with the Institute Director in effectively discharging his responsibilities and has close working relationships with the Faculty of Brain Sciences Operations Director and other parts of UCL Central Professional Services.
An acceptable DBS check is required to carry out this role.
This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
This role is an open-ended contract with a funding end date of 31st March 2028
About you
The Institute Manager takes responsibility for the smooth running of all aspects of the Institute’s operational support services. This includes finance, IT, HR and scientific support services including Biological and Histology Services, Health & Safety, laboratory, buildings and space management collectively Professional Services.
