This is a fixed term appointment for 2 years
The Grantham Research Institute is a world-leading centre for the study of the economics and social sciences of climate change and other global environmental problems, based at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
A new role within the Institute’s Communications team, the Design Manager will manage the design and typesetting of publications for the Institute and its sub-centres, the Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx), the Just Transition Finance Lab and the Transition Pathway Initiative Centre. The Design Manager will also manage the design and production of diverse materials such as infographics, events programmes and social media graphics. They will be able to work with existing templates and brand guidelines and will also have the ability to create new concepts and designs.
Candidates will possess a design qualification at HND level or above, and have experience of taking projects from brief to production and completion, with high-level skills in Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop. They will have experience of leading on the design and typesetting of publications ranging from a few pages to 100 pages-plus, and proven ability to accurately their check own work and the work of other designers for both digital and print publication. They will need detailed knowledge of print processes and experience of trouble-shooting print problems, with the ability to package work for print and supply print-ready artwork to printers, accurately assess proofs and deal with issues that arise.
Candidates will also have proven ability to proactively liaise with a range of colleagues at various levels of seniority, interpreting and communicating briefs and design concepts; and proven ability to follow authors’/editors’ amends and process feedback to correct page proofs with full accuracy and further the design of visuals. Experience of creating graphics specifically for use on social media is also required. They must also be able to simultaneously manage more than one design project at a time, including multi-page projects and multi-partner projects.
