BACKGROUND

CANDIDATE PROFILE

We are looking for an ambitious scientific leader. The role is suited to a candidate who is a leading researcher in data science and machine learning with an outstanding track record in collaborative research across related disciplines (AI, mathematical sciences, statistics, computing sciences), with interests in data-driven methods and a passion to deliver impact where it is needed most.

DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Translate the mission’s vision into actionable strategic and financial plans
  • Oversee the execution of the mission, ensuring objectives are met within budgets and time constraints.
  • Ensure that potential for real-world application is embedded in the design and delivery of the mission’s research
  • Create impact through efficient management of resources

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • PhD or equivalent level of professional qualifications and/or experience in data science or related quantitative discipline
  • Record of research excellence in an academic, government and/or industrial setting in the area of AI for Physical Systems within Science and Engineering
  • In depth understanding of the national data science and AI landscape, in the context of AI for Physical Systems within Science and Engineering

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The annual salary is from £89,598 (pro-rated to the hours worked) with excellent benefits, including flexible working & family friendly policies Employee-only benefits guide | The Alan Turing Institute.

This full-time post is offered on a fixed term basis for 3 years (with the possibility of extension). Part-time (0.5 FTE minimum) applications will be considered.

If taking the position on a part-time basis, you must be willing to commit at least 50% of your time to the Turing with a maximum of 50% of your time working on non-conflicting activities at your home organisation.

The Institute is headquartered in Kings Cross, London and so while we operate a hybrid working model you will be expected to spend time there each month to connect to your peer group and to work with teams across the Institute.
