The Role

The successful candidate will be part of the Trustworthy Digital Infrastructure for Identity Systems programme funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  The programme aims to enhance the privacy and security of national digital identity systems, with the ultimate goal to maximise the value to beneficiaries, whilst limiting known and unknown risks to these constituents and maintaining the integrity of the overall system. 

This role will be part of a collaboration between the Trustworthy Digital Infrastructure for Identity Systems programme and the SPRITE+2 hub. 

This collaboration will involve the development of understanding the problems and challenges of trustworthy national digital identity systems, and input into the development of appropriate methodologies, techniques, tools, and processes to address these challenges. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have experience and expertise in at least one of the following:

  • the analysis of cyber security risks,
  • cyber resilience or
  • digital identity systems.

In addition to this, they will have a PhD (or equivalent experience and/or qualifications) in a relevant area which will include computer science, social science or similar inter-disciplinary subjects. To be successful in this role, the post holder will need experience of risk assessment and analysis and management in applied settings. 

Main Duties

  • Publish and disseminate high-quality research papers and publications detailing research outputs and project case-studies.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate or present research outputs to diverse stakeholders.
  • Undertake high-quality research, contributing to the broader research aims of the Trustworthy Digital Infrastructure for Identity Systems programme.
  • Conduct appropriate data analysis and ensure the validity and reliability of research data at all times.
  • Support the Principal Investigators (PIs) and Technical Development Manager in the design and development of the project.
  • Provide advice on best practice surrounding network building in the digital identity ecosystem.

Terms and Conditions 

This 18-hour part-time post (0.5 FTE) is offered on a fixed-term basis for 2 years.

The Alan Turing Institute is based at the British Library, in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter. We expect staff to come to our office at least 4 days per month. Some roles may require more days in the office; the hiring manager will be able to confirm this during the interview.
