About Us

Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement (P&A) provides a fundraising and alumni engagement function in support of King’s College London. We are proud to work with colleagues across the university to help them serve society through world-leading education, research and healthcare. Our work also includes a partnership with the Maudsley Charity in support of children’s mental health initiatives between the university’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and the South London & Maudsley NHS Trust.

We are a committed team that brings together fundraisers working across different channels, alongside colleagues who promote King’s College London’s engagement with its worldwide alumni community. Our work is underpinned and enhanced by a range of dedicated professionals in supporting areas covering proposition development, supporter engagement, supporter operations and business operations.

About the role

King’s College London is looking to recruit a skilled Alumni Communities Officer, to develop and deliver King’s global alumni networks programme, cultivating meaningful relationships with some of our most committed alumni volunteers.

As Alumni Communities Officer, you will lead on all aspects of the volunteer networks programme, overseeing the journey from volunteer recruitment and committee management to event support and promotion of activity. Reporting to the Senior Manager (Alumni Volunteering), you will work with KCL Alumni Associations and international alumni committees, with the opportunity to support the delivery of international trips in priority regions.

Managing flagship initiatives such as the Alumni Leader Forum and Global Day of Service, you will develop opportunities that fosters a sense of connection and belonging within our global alumni community.

This is a full time, and you will be offered an indefinite contract. P&A has a hybrid working approach, with a minimum of 40% of time in the office. Typically, this equates to two days per week, but we’re very happy for colleagues to be in more frequently if they so wish.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Significant knowledge of and experience in successful project and event management
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with a variety of stakeholders, demonstrating tact and negotiating sensitively, building networks and shared goals
  • Proven experience of delivering services based on colleague and customer feedback, understanding their needs and expectations to tailor future planning
  • Able to set objectives, measure performance and budgets, and achieve ambitious KPIs
  • Ability to prioritise and to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills  
  • Experience of volunteer management and stewardship, ideally through community engagement programmes
  • Strong cultural competency with experience of working with individuals from different backgrounds and international audiences

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of digital engagement tools such as webinars and/or online community platforms
  • Experience of working in alumni relations, in higher education, and/or a membership organisation or charity  
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Dynamics or a similar relationship management database
  • Experience managing budgets and monitoring return on investment
