A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated scientist who would be appointed as Deputy Laboratory Manager of the DRWF Human Islet Isolation Facility.
The Islet Isolation Facility operates as part of the NHS commissioned UK Nationwide Human Islet Isolation programme, producing GMP grade human islets for transplantation, under regulation of the Human Tissue Authority.
In addition to taking part in human pancreatic islet isolation and transplantation, the successful candidate will assist in the day-to-day management of the HTA Licensed Human Islet Isolation Facility, which is comprised of a series of specialist, purpose-built, clean room suites operating to GMP standards.
Experience in human islet isolation would be highly desirable, but full training will be provided. The successful candidate will hold a BSc degree in a biological sciences discipline, in addition to prior experience supervising more junior members of staff. Working knowledge of Human Tissue Authority Regulations, in relation to the Human Application Sector, would be beneficial, as would previous experience in laboratory management. You need to be able to work well in a team, carry out tasks with accuracy, and take a flexible approach to your workload. The ability to actively participate in the bi-weekly 24/7 on call rota is essential for this role.
This post will be funded by the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation (DRWF) and is based in the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (OCDEM), at the Churchill Hospital.
