The Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia is one of the largest scientific research centres in sub-Saharan Africa, with an international reputation for ground-breaking research into some of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the tropics. We aim to improve people's health in developing countries by striving for excellence in research, healthcare, and training. Our research program spans basic scientific research, clinical studies, epidemiological studies and intervention trials, and translational research. The field and laboratory-based work draws on excellent research and clinical facilities and attracts international funding.
Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join our Nutrition and Planetary Health Theme. The post-holder will join an interdisciplinary team in The Gambia working on modelling climate change impacts on human health to inform national climate change risk and vulnerability assessments for sub-Saharan African countries.
The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant field and experience conducting novel environmental change and health research from conception to output stages. The successful applicant would have a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Some experience in communication and dissemination of policy-relevant results is desirable.
The post is full-time, 35 hours per week, 1FTE and fixed-term until 31 March 2027.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £44,847 - £50,808 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
The post is based in The Gambia at LSHTM.
