The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry.  The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a research programme focused on children and young people’s mental health. The post-holder will be based in Oxford and work as a Research Assistant to support a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funded multi-site programme, “ATTEND,” led in Oxford by Professor Willem Kuyken.

This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working with the expectation to attend the office in person at least 50% of the time. 

About the Role 

The post is funded for 10 months and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.  

The postholder will support the successful running of a multisite hybrid clinical and cost-effectiveness and randomised controlled trial (work package 3), under the direction of Site Lead, Willem Kuyken, the Trial Manager, Gemma Giove Hunt, and the Programme Manager, Dr Rachel Hayes.  

This will include supporting the Oxford site’s recruitment and assessment of young people and carers, assisting with intervention delivery, and data entry and management. The postholder will also liaise with the wider study team including collaborators at the other universities and NHS trusts, such as Exeter, King’s College London, Sussex, Oxford, Nottingham, Surrey, and Bradford. 

About You 

You will be educated to degree level in Psychology, Neuroscience or Medical Sciences or equivalent along with experience of working with young people, including knowledge of depression in young people.  Experience of clinical assessments of young people and carers and health services or schools-based research including data collection, data management, and analysis and drafting papers relating to the field is essential. A Masters/PhD in Epidemiology, Psychology, Neuroscience would be desirable as would experience of preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals.
