The Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is one of the largest Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering departments in the UK.
We run a thriving Biomedical Engineering undergraduate programme, and have recently had a cutting edge revision to the diet approved. The programme is taught by a community of teaching-focused and research-focused staff, with their synergetic skillsets.
About the role
Applications are invited for a Lecture (teaching) position, specialising in biomedical electronics and medical instrumentation, to contribute to our Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate degree programmes. Duties involve multiple aspects of the delivery and organisation of the these, and potentially other, programmes, including classroom teaching, running laboratory sessions, supervision of practical work, planning, tutoring, and assessment. You will work closely with academics in the Department, and with appointed postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs). You will also contribute to the development, planning and implementation of a high-quality curriculum and will assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
About you:
The successful applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering, with an Electronic focus. They will have experience of teaching electronics using problem-based and laboratory-based learning, and experience of teaching undergraduate and/or Masters students.
They will be able to demonstrate advanced level knowledge of, and practical experience of designing and building electronics as applied to biomedical engineering. The applicant will have excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to analyse existing processes to improve efficiency. They will have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and attention to detail. The role will require the applicant to coordinate and deliver modules teaching Medical instrumentation and Clinical Engineering. They will also supervise student projects, and serve as personal tutor. In addition, the post holder will coordinate undergraduate tutor provision, be a year lead, or undertake equivalent duties.
