We are seeking a Research Fellow to make an important contribution to an exciting BBSRC funded programme to evaluate the potential for using biochar to sequester carbon. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary team spanning the Schools of Biosciences, Engineering and Geography, in addition to external collaborators. The post holder will be based in the School of Biosciences (Sutton Bonington Campus) and will lead agronomic field and glasshouse trials in addition to undertaking analyses of soils, plants, microbes and invertebrates to understand the effects of char application on key ecosystem services. The role holder will be given the opportunity to use their initiative to shape aspects of the research of particular interest.
Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant subject. The ability to travel to field sites throughout the UK, which are often remote and not easily accessible by public transport is essential for this role. A working knowledge of UK farming systems and insect identification skills are also essential for this role.
The full-time (36.25 hour) fixed-term post is available until 31st October 2026. Job share arrangements may be considered.
