Senior Lecturer/Professor in Planning

This post is full-time (35 hours per week) and is offered on an open-ended basis.

The School of Social and Political Sciences is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Professor with specialism in planning based in the Subject of Place and Built Environment within the Division of Urban Studies and Social Policy. You will play a senior leadership role by conducting internationally excellent research, delivering research-led teaching and pursuing external engagement. Urban Studies and Social Policy is an internationally leading multidisciplinary group of social scientists. The Division consists of three Subjects: Place and Built Environment; Urban Analytics; and Social and Urban Policy. It hosts a large undergraduate programme in social and public policy, a suite of Masters programmes (some professionally accredited) in city planning, real estate, housing, urban transport, urban analytics, and public policy and management, and a well-established doctoral programme part-funded by the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (ESRC). Urban Studies and Social Policy is home to the UKRI-funded Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) and the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CaCHE), alongside numerous other grant-funded research programmes. It has developed strong global partnerships, especially through its Centre for Sustainable, Healthy and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC).

The Division is seeking to consolidate its teaching and research strengths in planning to coincide with the creation of the Place and Built Environment subject and the launch of refreshed accredited Masters programmes. We particularly welcome applicants with expertise related to one or more of the following specialisms: in city planning and city planning and real estate development with a strong UK and/or international focus, in any of the following areas: planning theory; planning systems, planning policy and practice, comparative planning, collaborative and community planning, and environmental and climate change planning. You will play a significant leadership role in building on existing, and adding new, teaching, research and impact activity. They will contribute novel theoretical, methodological, empirical and cultural perspectives. They will have the ability to lead significant research programmes and develop and convene taught courses at both UG and PG levels, especially in relation to the RTPI-accredited MSc City Planning and MSc City Planning and Real Estate Development. They will build active external stakeholder relationships that enhance the University’s reputation, advance knowledge exchange, public engagement, and strengthen links with the RTPI and other professional bodies.
