At the  Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG) we undertake discovery science where we reassemble physiological processes at the molecular, cellular, tissue and systems level of organisation. In so doing we provide a bridge to translational medicine, and interface between physical and life sciences. Overview of the role:

We are seeking a Facilities and Laboratory Safety Officer to join DPAG’s facilities team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and detail-oriented professional with experience in health and safety within a research or laboratory setting. You will have strong communication skills, the ability to identify and mitigate safety risks, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant working environment. This post is available immediately.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in laboratories and research facilities.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Maintain safety documentation, including COSHH records and SOPs.
  • Oversee laboratory equipment maintenance and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Provide safety training and emergency preparedness support.

Selection criteria:

  • Degree-level education with experience in laboratory safety.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and risk assessments.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
