Oxford’s School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) is one of the largest communities of Area Studies scholars anywhere in the world. This vibrant and dynamic University department has research and teaching programmes dedicated to AfricaChinaLatin America, the Middle EastJapanRussia and Eastern Europe, South Asia and Comparative Area Studies. The School welcomes students from all around the globe and offers seven MSc Degrees, six MPhil degrees, a DPhil in Area Studies, as well as the Oxford 1+1 MBA with Saïd Business School.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join OSGA as the Safety & Facilities Support Officer on a full-time, fixed term contract until 17th March 2027.The role is available immediately and can also be offered on a part-time basis (minimum of 80% FTE) and as a secondment opportunity for University candidates.

About the Role:

Reporting to the School Business Continuity & Projects Manager, the successful candidate will take general responsibility for facilitating the administrative functions related to day-to-day Health & Safety and facilities management at OSGA. As the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO), they will assist with implementing safety policies and provide professional customer service throughout. Working closely with key stakeholders, they will be responsible for fostering a welcoming and safe working environment for all OSGA staff, students, and visitors.

About You:

This role is ideal for an enthusiastic, reliable, and conscientious individual who thrives in a busy team environment with competing priorities. We welcome applications from candidates with prior experience in facilities management who can demonstrate a professional understanding of Health and Safety compliance within the workplace.

Essential to the role are strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly and accurately convey processes and procedures. The successful candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate a willingness to resolve situations proactively.

Experience in a customer-facing role, ideally within a Higher Education institution or a service industry environment, will be highly desirable.
