Would you like to be a part of delivering one of the foremost fashion courses in the world to the next creative generation?
Working in our Fashion Studios at King’s Cross, you will support the learning and teaching of an exceptionally talented, diverse cohort of Fashion students across 5 Design pathways. You can expect to be working with non-traditional materials and techniques and students with a variety of learning approaches and diverse backgrounds. There will be flashes of inspiration, some real genius at work, and exciting project deadlines all wrapped up in a creative, fast paced, fun environment.
With your knowledge of working in either the Creative Arts Higher Education sector or the Fashion Industry, this role is your opportunity to support students with the relevant technical skills and knowledge they require to realize their creative visions. Working as part of the existing technical team, within this role you would be providing student facing technical support in the fashion studios, working on a range of design and make projects across the year, culminating in Final Collections. Working within the wider college technical team and alongside academics you will be instrumental in developing and improving our students’ ability to successfully understand and challenge the world around us.
You will be part of the Fashion & Textiles technical team supporting technical skills inductions, garment production and safe studio practice across the learning environment. This will include writing & delivering Sewing and Health & Safety inductions, maintenance of studios and specialist equipment, ordering & selling materials and equipment and assisting other technical staff in their duties.
A good knowledge of IT is essential, such as Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Adobe and Outlook. An adherence to Health & Safety safe working practices and record keeping is also essential.
You may on occasion be asked to work flexibly within the team to support student deadlines.
About you
We are looking for a creative, self-motivated person who is great at communicating; good at multi-tasking and who can really empathise with the needs of the course and the students.
You will have a relevant qualification in your area of specialism, HND, first degree in Fashion Design, garment technology or related field with considerable experience in garment construction, fabrication techniques/sample making. You will have an understanding of how a fashion studio operates, with good organisational skills and team working abilities.
You may have higher education experience but more importantly, you will be passionate about the subject and your ability to support the students’ learning experience. We would expect high levels of technical competence and a dedication to personal development in technical areas.
