By joining the University of Central Lancashire, you'll be part of a thriving, talented community dedicated to transforming students' lives and creating prosperity in our communities. Every colleague plays a vital role in achieving this vision.
About the role:
The School of Medicine and Dentistry is looking for a Dentist Clinical Senior Lecturer to join its academic team. You'll mainly work with international undergraduate students, handling academic teaching, leadership, and pre-clinical supervision and training while meeting curriculum and quality assurance standards.
The School is rooted firmly within Primary Care and we operate an integrated BDS / Dental Therapy programme, along with a range of clinical and non-clinical programmes at all levels across the dental team.
Our international undergraduate dental students (BDSi) start in March of Year 4 of the traditional BDS programme where they complete 6 months of intensive pre-clinical training before being located in either our on-site dental clinic or one of our extended training practices from the second year of their training. You will be based at Preston but may be expected to travel occasionally to one of the extended training practices.
About you:
We require comprehensive long-term experience of primary care dentistry in a GDP, Clinic, or University, along with experience of teaching within a dental setting. Full current registration with the GDC as a restorative dentist is essential, as is a recognised clinical qualification indicating restorative specialism in clinical dentistry. You must also have a formal teaching qualification or willingness to undertake one within 2 years of appointment. Holding a recognised research degree and a post graduate qualification are desirable.
A team player, you will have the ability to explain and demonstrate practical skills, be IT literate in the use of standard Microsoft packages and will also demonstrate excellent communication skills. We require a commitment both to inter-professional education and to personal and professional development.
We have a total of 1 full time position to be recruited to, but we are willing to consider other working patterns and we may recruit several people to take on this role. Please state on your application how many hours/days you would like to work.
Informal discussions are welcome. Please contact Claudia Cunningham via email in the first instance.
This position is based at Preston but you should be willing and able to travel on University business as an integral part of this role.
What we can offer you:
Our people are our most important asset. We offer a fantastic package of rewards and lifestyle benefits – from an attractive annual leave entitlement to access to a comprehensive employee benefits platform.
We celebrate our diverse, multicultural community and are committed to fostering an inclusive culture. We especially welcome applications from individuals who will help further diversify the University and support its inclusive and welcoming culture.
The University is dedicated to providing a safe environment for study, work, and visits. We protect children, young people, and adults at risk from harm and abuse. Our safeguarding policy and safer recruitment procedures, along with other relevant policies and guidance, are detailed on our Safeguarding page.
Applicants for regulated roles must disclose any spent and unspent convictions and undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check if required. The University will only request a DBS check if legally entitled to.
